The Agglo intervenes in many areas
The Sarreguemines Confluences Agglomeration Community has compulsory skills, optional skills and optional skills.
The Agglo can also specify its fields of intervention within competences through the definition of community interest.
Elected officials can decide to upgrade skills at any time.

Mandatory skills
They are set by law and concern:
- economic development
- development of community space
- the social balance of the habitat
- city policy in the community
- welcoming travelers
- the prevention, collection, transport, treatment and recovery of household and similar waste
- management of aquatic environments and flood prevention (GEMAPI) – management of urban stormwater (GEPU)
- sanitation and drinking water

Optional skills
They are provided by law. Among them, the Agglo has chosen those concerning:
- the creation or development and maintenance of roads of community interest and car parks of community interest
- the protection and enhancement of the environment and the living environment
- Sustainable development
- the construction, development, maintenance and management of cultural and sports facilities of community interest

Optional Skills
In agreement with its member municipalities, the Agglomeration Community has chosen to exercise other powers which are:
- the contribution to investment expenditure or to educational actions undertaken for middle schools and high schools
- Higher Education
- the formation continues
- electronic communications networks
- health and safety (fire and rescue, animal pound)
- actions to promote the territory
- electricity distribution
- the allocation of exceptional support funds to member municipalities
- protection against natural hazards
- cross-border cooperation
- the creation, maintenance and management of childcare facilities in community activity areas - management of the community RPE (Relais Petite Enfance)
- tourism development
